Geocaching.com - Profile for flogator

Welcome

This site provides information regarding my cyber projects. These include:

Just bought "Using Drupal"

About a year ago, I have switched ISP and built my new home server.  After reading about few CMS systems on the web, I ended up using Drupal.  As said before, I'm no IT professional, so everthing I did was by fiddling my way through.  I'm no web developper either but I have some programming skills that were definitively useful.  I think the end result is not bad.

My introduction to geocaching

Back in Spring of 2008, I went exploring the nature using my all wheel drive vehicule.  Most specifically, I was looking for a lake which, I thought, would offer a wonderful scenic view.  Unfortunatelly, I could never find my way through those endless trails and came home hopeless.  I promissed myself that on my next adventure, I will find all my points of interest without getting lost.

Tightened my MediaWiki configuration

As stated earlier, I'm no IT professional.  One happy fellow noticed that and had fun with my MediaWiki installation.  It took me a while to figure out that by default, MediaWiki allow anyone to write anything on any wiki article.  After some google, I ended up implementing some of the patches used to tightened the security on my wiki.  A summary of them are listed at the following URL:

Launching my genealogy site

After looking around and testing different genealogy server software, I am ready to offer my genealogy site on my server.

Leaving the nest to walk in the wild

Today marks the completion of weaning. Although my web site is not complete yet, it is time to make the first step in the wild. I have officially decommissioned my old web sites and point everything to my home server. My first objective is to revive the BEFSX41 information that was gathered in the past few years. I have made the announcement on DSLReports.com. From now on, I will only update this section of my site upon demand.

The Flogator pictogram

Since my very first usage of the pseudonym Flogator, many people asked me what it means. One day, I will present the Flogator's legend to shed a light on the mystery. All I can tell for now is once, Flogator was a lion.

Today, I have pasted my pictogram in a few places on my web site. That same pictogram is now my avatar on DSLReports.com. Feel free to provide comments and stay tuned for teasers about Flogator's tale.

Wow! Google knows about me.

In a previous blog, I've mention that some bots were scanning my sites. Well, I have just googled for "flogator.org" and "flogator". It appears the world knows about my sites. Although I lack in content, happy reading :).

Breathing...

It has been a week that my server is up and running. Since then, I have added content to my site, added my genealogy tree and now monitoring and analyzing Apache statistics.

Interestingly enough, I have not yet published my URL to anyone yet. However, I have already started to be crawled by bots. For a reason or another, I thought that crawler bots were seeking for references to find sites. It appears now that the moment you have a registered domain, crawler bots will find you through the whois servers.

I'm alive

Today, I am going online with my new site.
